COMMUNITY WIDE CELEBRATION
In recognition of the opening of the Clyfford Still Museum, several local arts and cultural organizations have joined together to create a variety of exhibitions, programs and events to celebrate the spirit of the Abstract Expressionist movement, the work of Clyfford Still, and Denver’s growing cultural community. The celebration runs through February 2012.

Denver Botanic Gardens celebrates the addition of the Clyfford Still Museum to Denver’s cultural landscape with two mass plantings inspired by the work of Clyfford Still. Plants will be visible in May, peak in June, and be maintained through early September.

In conjunction with the 2011 opening of Denver’s Clyfford Still Museum and the Denver Art Museum exhibition entitled Focus: Robert Motherwell, Robischon Gallery presents a selection of works by Still's peer and fellow New York Abstract Expressionist Robert Motherwell. Also on view, further reflecting the Abstract Expressionist movement and its position of influence are aligned and divergent works by Still's students, noted painters Frank Lobdell and Jack Jefferson along with concurrent solo exhibitions by pre-eminent sculptor Manuel Neri and painters Gary Komarin and Dale Chisman.

Still in Context

Still in Context features artists who were contemporaries of Clyfford Still, including works by Helen Frankenthaller, Grace Hartigan, David Hare, and Knox Martin. In addition, the show features work by two of Still’s students from his tenure at Maryland Institute College of Art (M.I.C.A), Ed Kerns and Sam Scott as well as the work of Jeremy Hillhouse, who was influenced by Still.
