5:30-8:00 p.m. Conservation Studio Open House

What are the issues with conserving a "hidden" collection? How did Clyfford Still store his artwork? What surprises have the conservators found?

Join paintings conservator James Squires in the Conservation Studio for a peek into the world of conserving the Clyfford Still Museum Collection and presenting the Inaugural Exhibition of works never seen before by the public. Using current lab projects as examples, Squires will explore current conservation topics, from the structural and cosmetic to the philosophical.

6:45 p.m. Welcome and Director's Tour

Director and curator Dean Sobel launches the Community Wide Celebration with remarks and a few hints about what to expect in 2012. Follow Sobel into the galleries for a walkthrough of the Inaugural Exhibition and his curatorial perspective on presenting the first full retrospective of work of Clyfford Still.

7:15 p.m. Architecture Highlights: Concrete Details

How was the Museum constructed? Was the museum ceiling really made with a single pour of concrete? How does the building maximize daylight and protect the artwork?

Join the Museum's Facilties Manager David Finch for an up-close look at the Museum's architecture and exploration of the cast concrete structure, from concept to completion and all of the details in between.
