"The artist who wouldn't stand still: Willem de Kooning, 1904-1997"
John Elderfield, chief curator emeritus of painting and sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, New York
Except for de Kooning, the great Abstract Expressionists—Clyfford Still notable among them—slowly established a characteristic style, which they developed, expanded, and enriched as their careers evolved. In contrast, de Kooning was restless, moving successfully from style to style throughout his long career. What, then, is the balance between continuity and change within the art of Willem de Kooning? Join the Clyfford Still Museum for an evening with John Elderfield, who explores this essential question in a discussion about Willem de Kooning, one of Clyfford Still’s most famous contemporaries.
